Backlinks, Backlinks, Backlinks – That’s All I Ever Hear
Creating an awesome website is a small part of having an Internet presence. If no-one can find your site when searching then you might as well not spend any time building your website.
The most important thing that you can do to have an effective web site is have other web sites link to it. Usually, there are 2 types of backlinks, One-way and Reciprocal. Both are simple and effective ways to build site visitors but one is much more effective than the other – One-Way backlinks.
Reciprocal links are when you link to a site and that web site also links back to your website. This was a common type of linking a couple years ago and is still widely used. Some site owners get great traffic by using in a link exchange service or system created specifically for reciprocal backlinks. A link exchange is a group of website owners that exchange links with each other.
One-way links are mearly a link to your site from another site without the exchange. In some cases you may agree to exchange links to different websites which is referred to as an n-way link exchange. This type of linking is considered by most experts to be more successful than reciprocal links. Google truly favors this type of linking over reciprocal linking. But, it often is very difficult to get a one-way backlink. There are three main strategies for receiving one-way links: submit your site to directories, give away something significant that includes your link, pay for a link on another high ranking website.
1. Creating inbound links by submitting your site to directories or directory submissions is often free unless you choose to pay for upgrades. Directories are special web sites that list other websites that visitors may be interested in and are normally hand edited so they have more authoritative weight in the search engine formulas. There are software programs that can help with the boring process of filling in directory web forms. One of the least expensive is Directory Site Submitter.
Directory Site Submitter will allow you to create and manage multiple projects with multiple sites per project and then help you submit to over 400 free directories. The links from these sites will be valuable for SEO reasons more than actual traffic.
2. Another solution is to give away something valuable that includes your link. Articles are very popular since so many website owners need site content. They are cheap to create and are effective at drawing one-way links to your web site.
3. Stay away from buying links on websites for SEO purposes. It can cost up to $100 a month or more to put your link on a high ranked site and it still might not count in the search engine algorithm. Google has frequently said that buying direct links will not be of benefit for SEO. But, you might still use this technique to drive visitors from a high traffic site to your site.
The real truth is that if you are trying to build long term income, it is going to take some time before your site becomes profitable. A long term strategy for a web site may take six months or even a year for it to start creating income. It is also essential to start getting back links immediately. Choose your links carefully. Make sure that you are not getting links from low level websites, scraper websites or inbound links from bad neighborhoods.
Keep in mind, in today’s competitive Internet environment, if you would like a successful site then you will have to do at least as much or more SEO than the sites on the first page of search engine results.
